Known for their cult comedy shows Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai and Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, producer Binaiferr Kohli and her husband Sanjay Kohli have a loyal fanbase when it comes to the comedy genre. While they have given other noteworthy comedy shows too such as Jijaji chhat par hai, F.I.R, and Family No. 1, the audience will accept a good thriller from them as well. “We have done award-winning shows and a movie also. I have also got awards for writing soaps. And now we are in the process of doing a comedy web series and a thriller web series,” she says, adding, “Bhabiji is a cult show, but so was F.I.R and Family No 1, the first one to win internationally.

They are all big achievements. It’s not tough to break people’s expectations, I will try my best to go higher and do better every day. We are known for our comedy shows but if we do a good thriller or soap, which we have done in the past, why will the audience not accept us? If a character or story is good, why will people not watch it?”

However, comedy is something that both Binaiferr and Sanjay enjoy doing. “Comedy is evergreen, everyone wants to laugh, have fun. It’s family viewing, it brings lightness to your life, happiness, the future of comedy is always bright. During the pandemic, comedy has brought a lot of laughter to a lot of people. People keep messaging us saying, ‘Thank you so much’. And we keep thanking them for letting us give them joy and appreciating our work,” she says.
However, comedy shows need to have very strong content, says the producer. “Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai and Happu ki Ultan Paltan are keeping the audiences glued definitely. I think what has worked in their favour is that they are both family comedies which are high in their fun quotient. You cannot just have a comedy for the sake of it, it has to have witty, good, fun writing,” she says.
