Zee TV’s popular show Vasudha recently completed one successful year on air. The show, with its gripping storyline and powerful performances, has become a fan favorite. Actor Abhishek Sharma, who plays the lead role of Dev, has been winning hearts with his sincerity and charm. In an exclusive conversation, Abhishek opened up about his journey, the success of the show, his much-loved character, and the bond he shares with fans.
Can you share one of your fondest memories from the sets of Vasudha over the past year?
First and foremost, the most memorable moment for me was when we shot in a chopper. Our director had arranged it from Delhi, and we had it for about 3–4 hours. Shooting in that was an incredible experience because it was my very first time in a chopper. That’s something I will always cherish.
Another highlight has been the action sequences. All the action scenes have been phenomenal and served as a great learning curve. I’ve always wanted to perform action on screen, and getting the opportunity to do so was truly fulfilling. These memories are something I often revisit.
What do you admire the most about your character Dev?
What I admire the most about my character is his simplicity, sincerity, and the way he shows love and respect towards both his elders and younger ones.
If you could change one thing about Dev’s personality or journey, what would it be and why?
If given a chance, I’d want Dev to deal more strongly with the negative aspects that come into his or his family’s life. He should grab those situations by the throat and cut them off permanently, not allowing anyone to harm his family again. That’s something I’d like to change about him.
Dev and Vasudha have finally confessed their love for each other. Can fans expect any big twists ahead?
Yes, there are many twists coming up. Kaku has given poison—whether Vasu’s life will be saved or not is a big suspense. If she survives, Chandrika will bring more complications into Dev’s life. There are also twists involving Karishma and Hanuman. This love story is definitely not going to be easy.
How do you prepare yourself to get into the skin of Dev before each scene?
It’s been a year since I started playing Dev, and he has really become an integral part of my life. In the beginning, I followed the guidelines I received from my director and shaped the character accordingly. Dev deeply believes in his mother—whatever she says is the final word for him. His parents are his utmost priority, and that never changes.
He is disciplined, punctual, and extremely sincere. Before every scene, I prepare by asking myself—what would Dev do if Chandrika were watching him? That thought process helps me stay true to his character. For me, when I’m playing him, it’s always “Dev time.”
Your on-screen jodi with Priya is loved by fans. How do you feel about the overwhelming response to Dev–Vasudha’s chemistry?
I’m absolutely loving the way fans are appreciating everything about Dev and Vasudha—the chemistry, the proposal track, the emotional connect. As an actor, it’s a wonderful feeling when the audience connects with you through different emotions. That’s what we all strive and work hard for—their love and acceptance.
If not an actor, what profession would you have pursued?
Definitely cricket. I’m a big-time cricket fan and also a cricketer myself. I played during my bachelor’s and master’s years, and I was even the captain of my college cricket team. I still play whenever I get free time. So yes, if not acting, I would have definitely pursued cricket as a profession.
Any message for your fans?
Over the last year, the kind of love I’ve received is beyond anything I had imagined. It’s more than I ever expected, and it’s truly overwhelming. As an actor and as a human being, it feels incredible to know that so many people are watching you, loving you, praying for you, and sending blessings.
I often get messages from fans who even worry when they see me sick in a scene—they DM me saying, “Get well soon, we can’t see you like this.” That level of love and care is priceless, and I feel deeply grateful for it.
