Exclusive: I enjoyed playing a non-traditional lead in Jamai No 1- Simaran Kaur

By Anil Merani: Talented actor, voice-over artist, and host Simaran Kaur is quite pleased with the way her Zee TV show, Jamai No 1, ran, which concluded on August 31st.

“It was a good run—our show began last year and lasted nearly twelve months, which is impressive since some serials don’t survive for even a few weeks.”

“Despite repeated time slot changes, including starting at 10:30 pm and later moving to a late-night 11:00 pm slot, we still managed to achieve a rating of 1.1 during that period.”

“The show ended after it was moved to an early evening 7:00 pm slot to accommodate the reality show Choriyan Gali Gaon on weekday evenings; most other shows also lost their existing time slots at the same time.”

“The channel tried to share information about our new time slot, but it didn’t work as well as hoped. Ideally, more time would have helped (the plug was pulled within a week), but this was not my decision to make.”

“As a positive person, I take solace in knowing that after our shift to the new slot, we managed to double the previous ratings for that time period to 0.66, which shows we had substance.”

“I also enjoyed playing a modern woman who physically stood up for a man against a goon. Usually, lead characters are limited to traditional roles. “Simaran had earlier done lead-in tube shows like Agnifera and Aghori.

It was interesting to play someone with mental health issues who overcomes them on her own, without relying on a man, as is usually shown.

Looking ahead, Simaran says she is open to any interesting work. ” I am not just an actor but also a voice-over artist (Nobita), sports anchor (IPL), and travel show host (‘India’s Best Resorts’), so I have many options.”

Simaran we wish you all the best
