By Anil Merani: Talented actress Amrapali Gupta, known for her compelling negative roles such as Tanveer in Qubool Hai, is all set to impress with her upcoming work in the popular Colors TV show Mannat.
“My antagonist character causes trouble between the leads. There is a twist to her as well, but why don’t you follow the show yourself?”
I love playing negative for you have much more to play with, unlike the limited leads. Also, professionally, it is tough to keep netting protagonists, so it’s better to diversify into an option that comfortably keeps your kitchen running,” says Amrapali, who has done several other hit shows such as Teen Bahuraaniyaan, Neem Neem Shahad Shahad and Ishqbaaaz.
This sister of Additi Gupta is ready for the trolling that comes with the vamp territory; “some Mannat stans have already started sending nasty messages to torment Mannat (Ayesha Singh) even before I have appeared on screen.”
“I generally take this with a pinch of salt, but a few fans do cross the line, as one fan called me a bitch in a temple for tormenting Zoya( Surbhi Jyoti). One other nasty incident left me hurt as well.”
Amrapali, who had earned her spurs with Muslim socials like Qubool Hai and Rabb Se Hai Dua, loves some Pakistani drama content (Humsafar) that is more realistic and not OTT. “I hope we indians picked up similar skills.”
“Having said that, for the moment, I love our chef backdrop Mannat, which is again not your regular saas bahu saga.”
Looking ahead, Amrapali is open to exploring OTT platforms, though she feels some makers underestimate TV actors’ ability to deliver subtle performances. She also mentions her discomfort with intimacy scenes, emphasising that character justification is key.
Amrapali would love to try her hand at Bigg Boss, but she is also contemplating how much to share about her personal life, especially her husband, Yash, with whom she previously appeared on Nach Baliye 6.
