Traditionally, a woman is expected to perform some limited roles, like that of a mother, a wife, a daughter, a daughter-in-law, and that’s it. Forget about having her own identity, she is not even supposed to have friends. Rajan Shahi’s “Anupamaa” is one such story of a homemaker, who has forgotten herself for her family. But she is now slowly exploring and discovering herself.

Anupamaa, played by the very talented Rupali Ganguly, has accepted all the challenges life has thrown at her and has given a befitting reply every time. She will soon have a guest coming to stay over at her house who is none other than her childhood bestie Devika, essayed by Jasveer Kaur. Devika had entered the show in the very first episode and had introduced herself as Anupamaa’s childhood friend, who is a divorcee and lives in the US.

With her coming to stay over at Anupamaa’s, the makers are setting a big example of friendship. Because generally a housewife’s friends are not given importance or she is not expected to have friends. How can mom have friends? Or Who are my wife’s friends?, such questions are asked to a housewife. However, a husband’s friends or friends of kids and even in-laws are encouraged. We have forgotten that friendship has no gender, no age, it’s just a beautiful bond between two individuals and Anupamaa has nothing less than love and care for her friend.

Let’s wait and see how Anupamaa’s family reacts to this new guest entering their house. You can expect a “Mummy ki dost?” reaction for sure.
