By Anil Merani: It’s a striking irony that in a time when women’s empowerment is gaining momentum in Indian society, we witness a stark lack of support among female contestants in a popular reality show.
You have a man who openly insults a lady, and not one of her female colleagues speaks out.
You guessed it right. I am talking about Elvish Yadav’s now deleted nasty comments about Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang in his latest podcast with Rajat Dalal. What’s more disappointing is the deafening silence among fellow female BB 18 inmates.
Seeing no female BB18 contestant stepping up to defend Chum is disheartening. Inside the house, these girls often spoke at length about womanhood, yet when a fellow woman was in need, they chose silence over solidarity.
One female contestant we spoke off- to record defended this reticence to positioning} whatever we say; we will be judged.
“If I ever speak, I would have to take Chum’s side (women thing), and once I do that, I will end up alienating a lot of potential fans who support Rajat, Karan and other guys”
“We are here to make our career, and we require fandoms to support us
Also, the rival fans will make a song and dance on my social media account who wants that added headache.” added she
And let’s face it, Bigg Boss is over. We need to be friendly with all, ” ended our source
We also spoke to past Bigg Boss season contestants, and most of them refused to comment. The only one who spoke was Kamya Punjabi, and we produced verbatim of what she messaged back in response to our WhatsApp
I have no idea abt it. Also, Bigg Boss is done. People made so many derogatory remarks about me, too… best is to ignore I am sure Chum is doing that, too. If there is anything said or done, as I said, I know nothing about it.
It is sad that current women contestants are looking at personal benefits, such as gaining more followers or securing future opportunities, before coming to a sister’s rescue.
Sadly, this is how our TV industry operates. No one wants to upset the apple cart.
And the fact that Elvish, too, deleted the offending bits saved the girl from further embarrassment as they can now claim to let bygones be bygones.
