Well, the Star Wars franchise has never failed to surprise it’s fans and cinema-goers around the world with it’s breathtaking visual effects and out of the world action.

Well, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has announced the 20 films in the race for the Best Visual Effects and despite the film is still yet to hit the theaters, Rogue One has already reserved it’s place with front-runners like The Jungle Book, Dr. Strange and Arrival!

Rogue One is a strong contender given that the Star Wars franchise has a legacy of taking home the prize. There is also the fact that the academy is usually impressed by VFX involving outerspace (Interstellar won the award in 2015, and Gravity won in 2014). But Rogue One will have to demonstrate some noticeable advancements from previous films to snag the award.

With this nomination, it clearly sets the benchmark of the Star Wars franchise.

“Rogue One” tells the story of a group of unlikely heroes, who in a time of conflict band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is all set to hit the Indian theaters on 16th December, 2016!
