By: Anil Merani; Social media has completely upended the TV power game. No wonder stars can now speak their hearts out without the fear of antagonizing the powers to be.
One more example would be Erica Fernandes, who recently took to Instagram over what went wrong with her Sony show, Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi3.(KRPKAB3)
As per Erica, the show suffered from creative defectives, which she expected to be addressed, failing which she took the drastic step of walking out of this Beyond Dreams production one month before its ending.
The note further adds that although the audience loved her intelligent and balanced franchise character, Sonakshi Bose . yet she ended up as a doing nothing housewife in season 3.
If you attempt to read between the lines, she has blamed the above mess on the KRPKAB3 writing by missing the earlier wordsmith Durjoy Datta.
Typically actors dont wash dirty linen in public, and some might question her walking out, given that the show was any way in its final lap.
Here we can only guess that maybe things soured between Erica and the makers. Telltale signs were visible even when the show had just started.
Things have only worsened since then; no wonder Erica did not even thank KRPKAB3 producers Yash and Mamta Patnaik. Erica is also hurting at being made the fall guy as per the above now-viral note.
Ideally, the channel should have stepped in and tried to find an amicable settlement. The fact that show also was not rating, as per Sony fiction standards, might have prompted them to keep off.
Even KRPKAB3 co-star Shaheer Sheikh has gone on record, accepting audience dissatisfaction with the show.
Today actors are no longer scared of taking hard steps, being aware that fans love them for themselves and not as characters, so channels and makers also can’t have a field day as before.
The maker also need to accept that you can’t stretch a concept beyond a limit to milk its value, else you will have an issue.
In closing, I also have a few queries for Erica. What briefing did KRPKAB3 creative team give her at the very outset of season 3? Was Erica in the know of the overall storyline? Were any assurances were given to her back then that remained unfulfilled.
