Spider man says, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
And its true for the lead actors on TV too. Being the leading face of a popular show is no easy job. There is pressure from producers and creative teams. Subsequently, there are endless expectations of audiences who tune in to watch these faces every day. So, very obviously when a leading face quits the show while its still on air, it creates a lot of impact including the ratings of show.

But recently, we have heard of quite a number of lead actors quitting their shows. Having a successful show on air is a real deal for any actor. So, what are the reasons for these actors that they are willing to give up all?

When asked to actors for the decision about quitting the show was difficult, they would mostly say yes. But rarely regret their decision. A lot of factors come in for actors to leave. Why is it happening is a question.

Reasons for actors exiting from shows:

A lot of times actors aren’t given the content they are initially promised. Or the story is changed due to channel pressure in TRP favour. This is exactly what happened with the Star Plus’ show Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji’s leading female face, Jasmine Bhasin. After a sudden leap decision, her character didn’t shape up as it was narrated to her causing her to quit the show. On somewhat similar lines, Karn Sangini’s Kinshuk Vaidya left the show because the focus suddenly shifted from Arjun’s character that he was playing.

In these type of situations the actors feel robbed and disappointed because their characters or the story becomes totally different from what they had signed up for.

Vivian Dsena is leaving Colors’ popular show Shakti-Astitva Ke Ehsas Ki. His reason for quitting is that he does not want to play a father figure to a grown up child at this point in his career. On Indian TV, it has become quite normal these days for making actors play parents to actors of the same age in the name of time leap. Mostly actors are reluctant playing a parent in fear of getting typecast for same kind of roles on TV. Decision comes from them to quit the show.

Another reason many actors quit shows is because of being repetitive and part os a story line that have no meat. A lot of polished actors have stopped working on TV for the very same reason. Be it Karan Wahi, Barun Sobti, Karan Kundra, Ritvik Dhanjani or Shantanu Maheshwari, they quit for this reason. For an actor hungry to perform on  TV has really doesn’t offer anything challenging or new these days.

Karan Patel, leading face of Star Plus’ long standing show, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein recently chose Khatron Ke Khiladi over his show. Though he has called it quits on account of date issues.

The hard truth:

The truth is channels and creative teams need to do better if TV standards have to be raised. Its not just a co-incidence that TV watchers are moving towards digital medium so fast. Not just actors but the audience deserves better too. The repetition of same tracks in every show is like getting the same wine in different packages. So, TV creatives need to give actors exciting content and good storyline. Similarly, channels should give creatives freedom to develop storyline so that actors don’t have to quit the show before its finale. Leaving a show in which they have invested blood, sweat, energy and love is not easy for anyone be it actors or viewers.
